29th May 2026: We don’t have any macaw chicks that are not fully feathered yet. The chicks in the photo are nearly 8 weeks old which is when we take them away from their parents. You can see that they don’t have all of their feathers yet.
We should have chicks like these at the end of the year again.
Most breeders either let chicks be PARENT-REARED by their parents OR they take the chicks away from their parents and HAND-REAR them. We believe that it is healthier for chicks to be parent-reared but chicks who are not hand-reared at all are not very tame, so we combine BOTH. We leave our chicks with their parents for up to 8 weeks and then take them away and hand feed them until they go to their new families.
